Ebrahim Hatamikia to hold workshop at 36th FIff

Iranian director Ebrahim Hatamikia has been set to hold a workshop at the 36th edition of the Fajr International Film Festival.

The acclaimed Iranian director will share his experiences in filmmaking with some 110 students from 50 countries during a 2-hour workshop in Tehran's Charsou Cineplex.

He will review the procedure of making 'Damascus Time', which is currently on screen in Iranian cinema theaters, during the workshop.

Born in 1961, Hatamikia studied Scriptwriting and began his career with writing screenplays for short films about the eight-year Iraq-Iran war in the 1980s.

He directed his first feature film ‘Identity’ in 1986. He established himself as a director who addresses issues pertaining to the Iraq-Iran war and its aftermath with films such as ‘The Scout’, ‘From Karkheh to Rhine’ and ‘The Glass Agency’.

Hatamikia does not create fake and unrealistic heroes in his films; rather his characters are based on real people.

He has made a number of movies, including ‘Mohajer (Immigrant)’, ‘Green Ashes’, ‘Scent of Joseph's Shirt’, ‘Minou Tower’, ‘Red Ribbon’, ‘Dead Wave’, ‘Low Heights’, ‘The Purple’, ‘In the Name of Father’, ‘Invitation’, ‘Che (Chamran)’, and ‘Bodyguard’.

Hatamikia has also made series such as ‘Scarlet Soil’ and ‘The Green Ring’.

As an actor he has appeared in movies such as ‘The Scout’, ‘Scent of Joseph's Shirt’, ‘Invitation’, and ‘The Private Life of Mr. and Mrs. M’.

He was nominated for two Fajr International Film Festival Crystal Simorghs for Best Script and Best Director for ‘From Karkheh to Rhine’, but it was ‘The Glass Agency’ that won him two Crystal Simorghs.

‘Invitation’ is one of the films of Hatamikia which nominated him for Best Screenplay and Best Directing at Iran Cinema Celebration Statue.

He won a Chrystal Simorgh for directing 'Damascus Time' at the 36th edition of the Fajr Film Festival.

He has so far received several domestic and international awards for ‘In the Name of My Father’, ‘Red Ribbon’, ‘The Glass Agency’, ‘From Karkheh to Rhine’, ‘Mohajer (Immigrant)’, ‘The Scout’, ‘The Purple’, and ‘Che (Chamran)’.

Established in 1982, the FIff celebrates cultural exchange, displays creative achievements of highly acclaimed cineastes and pays tribute to local and international films.

Since its establishment, the Fajr International Film Festival has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors and new filmmakers from Iran and across the world every year.

Directed by Reza Mirkarimi, the 36th edition of the festival is slated for April 19-27, 2018, in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.
